In recent weeks it seems that Al-Shabaab terrorists have entered a new phase of their campaign. The Somalia based organization with ties to al-Qaeda has been responsible for many attacks in Somalia and throughout East Africa killing hundreds of Somalis and East Africans like the more than seventy who died watching the World Cup Soccer Final in Kampala, Uganda.
The terrorist groups is being accused by the Kenya authorities for the resent kidnappings of aid workers and expatriates.
This week al-Shabaab rebels abducted Spanish aid workers while they were caring for Somalia refugees at Kenya’s Dadaab camp, according to Kenya’s regional police chief Leo Nyongesa. “Two aid workers of Spanish nationality have been kidnapped by the Shabab, they are working for MSF (Medecins Sans Frontieres).” The Kenyan driver for the aid workers was shot in the neck, but was in a stable condition.
Three weeks ago of a Kenyan driver working for Care Kenya was abducted. In recent weeks, a French woman and a British touris were also kidnapped in separate incidents near the border with Somalia.
